- In October 14, 1960 the president of the united states John F. Kennedy addressed a group of 5,000 students at the university of Michigan, he publicly challenged them to help contribute to the world by spending two years helping people in developing countries.
- March 1, 1961 was the year that Peace Corps was officially announced to the people. the president at the time was John F. Kennedy and he officially gave the executive order to begin funding this worldwide program.
- During that same month the first director of Peace Corps was appointed by the president himself. The program had begun with 55 countries already receiving aid and over 14,500 volunteers already signed up.
- Almost 4 months after the official release date of the program 11,000 more applicants were signed up. The program was a success.
- Later about 3 years after the inauguration of the Peace Corps the program was already headlining many famous magazines with their contributions and their ability to help without receiving anything in return but the gratitude and gratefulness of the people they're helping.
